Karnataka Man Found Dismembered in Sharjah Car, Family Awaits Repatriation

Udupi Man's Dismembered Body Discovered in Sharjah, Family Appeals for Help
A man from Kundapur in Karnataka's Udupi district has been murdered in Sharjah, with his body found cut into nine pieces and packed into two bags inside a car, etvbharat.com reports. The family of Alwyn Prakash Kundar is now seeking urgent assistance from Indian authorities to repatriate his remains.
Prakash had been living in Sharjah with his wife Tina and their son and had worked at Sharjah Airport for approximately 14 years. His brother, Anil Prashanth Kundar, said the last contact attempt was made on 26 July. That day, Prakash responded only via text message rather than his customary voice messages, and subsequently stopped answering calls entirely.
Concerned family members contacted his employer, who initially indicated that Prakash had returned to India. Anil then informed the company's HR department that no record of Prakash's arrival in India existed. A subsequent check reportedly revealed that his passport was still held by the company.
A missing-person case was registered with Sharjah police, who began a search. Investigators found Prakash's body on 12 August inside a car reportedly travelling towards Oman. DNA testing later confirmed the identity of the deceased.
Anil further alleged that money had been withdrawn from Prakash's bank account after his disappearance. He claimed CCTV footage showed a woman and two unidentified persons carrying two bags and placing them in the boot of a car. The family also alleged that Prakash suffered stab wounds and that his fingers had been severed, and that the vehicle used to transport the body — believed to have belonged to Prakash — was later abandoned in a parking area.
Anil added that Prakash's wife and son had returned to India but had since been unreachable, which he said had heightened concern among relatives. These claims have not been independently confirmed by Udupi police.
The family has approached Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar and Udupi MP Kota Srinivasa Poojary, requesting coordination with UAE authorities and faster processing of the repatriation. Anil said the family had received the death certificate but was still awaiting a copy of the FIR. Their primary demand, he stated, was that those responsible for Prakash's death be identified and held accountable.
Legal constraints limit local police action
Udupi SP Hariram Shankar confirmed that the district police had not yet received official information from Sharjah police regarding the alleged murder.
"Regarding the murder case of the Udupi resident Alwyn Prakash Kunder which happened in Sharjah, I would like to clarify that the victim's brother had come yesterday and given a petition to me asking for any assistance regarding the case," Shankar said.
He outlined the legal limitations facing the district force. "As far as assistance is concerned, unless a Letter Rogatory or Red Corner Notice or any Interpol notices are issued against the alleged accused, there is no legal measure to be done from Udupi Police at this point of time," the SP said.
Despite those constraints, Shankar said informal steps were being taken. "We are arranging contacts in Dubai Consulate so that the family can speak and coordinate regarding further progress of the investigation," he added. The Udupi police also said they would seek case information through Interpol channels.
The family is now awaiting responses from UAE authorities and Indian diplomatic contacts while completing formalities required to bring Prakash's remains back to Karnataka.
