Barbados man remanded to Dodds Prison on two assault charges

St Michael man held at Dodds after court rejects bail on assault charges

Barbados Today reports that Ronaldo Antonio Saviola Simmons, 24, of 2nd Avenue Paddock Road, St Michael, has been remanded to Dodds Prison until August 21 after appearing before Acting Chief Magistrate Douglas Frederick at the No. 1 District 'A' Magistrates' Court.

Simmons pleaded not guilty to assaulting Natesha Jack, occasioning her actual bodily harm, on July 23. He also denied a second assault on Jack that occurred on Tuesday.

Prosecutor Reginald Blackman opposed bail on several grounds: that Simmons posed a danger to the complainant and the broader public, that he may reoffend, that the evidence against him was strong, that a medical report had been provided, and that there were concerns in the community about his behaviour.

The court denied bail. Simmons is to return on August 21, when the complainant is expected to appear.
