Barbados nurse charged with debit card fraud and theft totalling over $4,000

St Michael nurse surrenders passport after $4,000 fraud and theft charges

A 25-year-old nurse and chef from St Michael appeared before the No. 2 District 'A' Magistrates' Court on Monday and surrendered her passport as a condition of bail, Barbados Today reports.

Tarajae Abegail Vickers, of 3rd Avenue Spring Garden, St Michael, faces multiple counts of theft and criminal deception. Prosecutors allege she used a CIBC Caribbean Bank Visa debit card belonging to Olive Stuart — without authorisation — at several businesses across four consecutive days in May.

The first alleged incident occurred on May 11, when Vickers is accused of obtaining $110 worth of items from Informal Bling by falsely representing she was permitted to use Stuart's card. On the same day, she is further accused of obtaining goods valued at $55 and $149 from D Game Store using the same card.

The charges continue into May 12, when Vickers allegedly obtained $220 in articles from Caribbean Queen Beauty, again by falsely claiming authorisation to use the debit card. The following day, May 13, she is accused of obtaining $465 in goods from Informal Bling through the same misrepresentation.

On May 14, prosecutors allege Vickers used the card to obtain $65.90 in food from Chefette Restaurant. She is additionally accused of stealing $3,000 in cash from Olive Stuart on May 13.

Magistrate Manila Renee read the charges in court, but no pleas were entered. The prosecution raised no objection to bail, and Vickers was released on $7,500 bail with the requirement to surrender her passport.

The case is next scheduled to be heard on November 26. Defence attorney Simon Clarke is representing Vickers.
