Black Rock man to be sentenced November 6 after guilty plea on firearm charge

Jerimiah Selassie Bartlett, of Fernihurst, Deacons Road, Black Rock, is scheduled to be sentenced on November 6 in the gun court, Barbados Today reports, after pleading guilty to possessing a .40-calibre S&W SIG pistol and seven rounds of ammunition on January 3, 2026.

Bartlett reappeared before Justice Douglas Frederick in the No. 2 Supreme Court on Friday, where the facts of the case were formally read into the record.

According to Principal State Counsel Rudolph Burnett, officers from the Serious Organised Crime Unit were conducting investigations in the Deacons Farm area of St Michael when they spotted Bartlett holding a black firearm. On noticing the officers, he ran, triggering a foot chase. During the pursuit he tripped and fell, at which point officers moved in and arrested him.

The firearm was recovered in close proximity to where Bartlett fell. When questioned about it, he denied any knowledge of or ownership over the weapon. He told the court he sustained injuries to both legs, two fingers on his right hand and his right elbow as a result of the fall.

Safiya Moore is representing Bartlett ahead of the November 6 sentencing date.
