Guilty plea in Antonio Layne murder case at Barbados Supreme Court

Oshea Kai Greenidge pleaded guilty to the 2020 murder of Antonio Layne at the No. 3 Supreme Court. Two co-accused continue to stand trial.

Second defendant enters guilty plea in 2020 Barbados murder trial

Oshea Kai Greenidge, of Ruby, St Philip, entered a guilty plea to murder on Monday when proceedings resumed in the No. 3 Supreme Court before a 12-member jury, Barbados Today reports. Greenidge, represented by Senior Counsel Angella Mitchell-Gittens, requested to be re-arraigned before delivering the plea.

The case centres on the death of Antonio Layne on 4 June 2020. Acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Krystal Delaney, leading the State's case alongside acting Senior State Counsel Anastacia McMeo-Boyce, accepted the guilty plea.

Greenidge is the second defendant to admit guilt in the matter. A fourth man, Ade Omotunde Blackman of River Land, St Philip, had previously entered a guilty plea.

The trial of the two remaining accused continues on Tuesday. Shawn Orlando Crookendale of Skeetes Road, St Michael, and Jason Ricardo Layne of Leadvale, Christ Church — the deceased's brother — have both pleaded not guilty. Layne is represented by attorneys Lesley Cargill-Straker and Kristin Vanderpool, while Crookendale is defended by attorneys Sade Harris and Elan Greenidge.

Justice Carlisle Greaves presides over the proceedings.
