St Michael man held at Dodds after court finds no surety available

A 50-year-old unemployed man from New Orleans, St Michael, has been remanded to Dodds Prison after he was unable to produce a surety at his bail hearing, Barbados Today reports.

Fabian Antonio Albert Lewis, of Hinkson Gap, appeared before Magistrate Manila Renee in the No. 2 District 'A' Magistrates Court on charges of criminal damage. He is accused of intentionally or recklessly damaging 16 windows and three doors belonging to Brian Elcock, as well as 11 windows and five doors belonging to Chenia Sue. The alleged offences took place on June 6.

No party in court objected to Lewis receiving bail. However, Lewis himself told Magistrate Renee that he had no one available to sign as his surety, leaving the court with no option but to remand him.

Magistrate Renee ordered that the case be transferred to the District 'C' Magistrates Court, where Lewis is scheduled to appear on Thursday.
