St Michael man held on firearms charges after Huntes Street shooting

A 30-year-old self-employed man from St Michael has been remanded to Dodds Prison for 28 days following a shooting incident earlier this month, Barbados Today reports.

Jason Andre Leacock, of 1st Avenue Friendship Terrace, St Michael, appeared before Magistrate Manila Renee in the No. 2 District 'A' Magistrates Court on charges connected to an incident on Huntes Street on August 8.

Leacock is accused of discharging a firearm without lawful authority on Huntes Street — a public thoroughfare — in a manner that placed Mary Rouse and Renee Rouse at risk of death or serious injury.

He faces two additional charges: possessing and using a firearm without a valid licence, and wilfully damaging a concrete pillar on a house belonging to Mary Rouse. The prosecution alleges he either intended to destroy or damage the property, or acted recklessly as to whether it would be destroyed or damaged — and that he was reckless as to whether Mary Rouse's life would be endangered in the process.

Leacock, who was represented by attorney Simon Clarke, was not required to enter a plea to the indictable offences. He is scheduled to return to court on September 21.
