Bridgetown court releases two teens on $5,000 bail after violence charges

Two teenagers charged with unlawful violence and assault were released on bail Thursday after appearing before Magistrate Manila Renee at the No. 2 District 'A' Magistrates Court in Bridgetown, Barbados Today reports.

Dagion Delisle Ifill, 19, of Perfection Road, Bush Hall, and a 17-year-old co-accused faced charges that, acting together on August 18, they used or threatened unlawful violence against Aaron Welch-Gittens in a manner that caused him to fear for his personal safety. A separate charge alleged that they assaulted Welch-Gittens on the same date, causing him actual bodily harm.

Neither defendant was required to enter a plea. The prosecution raised no objection to their release, and Magistrate Renee set bail at $5,000 each. The hearing was adjourned until November 26.

Before the pair left the dock, Magistrate Renee delivered a direct warning: "If you see him on the road, head in the next direction. Have nothing to do with him or your bail may be revoked."

Defence attorney Shadia Simpson represents Ifill, while counsel Rene Forde appeared on behalf of the 17-year-old.
