Vancouver.citynews.ca reports that a Canadian commercial truck driver has been charged with multiple drug offences after border officers uncovered a significant cache of narcotics at the Abbotsford-Huntingdon Port of Entry in British Columbia.

Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers discovered 52 brick-shaped packages concealed in two duffle bags inside the driver's truck and trailer. Investigators with the RCMP Federal Policing Pacific Region (FPPR) subsequently identified the substances as cocaine and heroin.

Khushwinder Singh Gill, 47, was arrested on October 22 and now faces four charges: importation of cocaine, importation of heroin, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, and possession of heroin for the purpose of trafficking.

Staff Sgt. Eric Kimura of the RCMP FPPR Drugs and Organized Crime Unit said the case illustrated the value of inter-agency collaboration. "This investigation and its result demonstrate the positive impact of our coordinated efforts with the CBSA to stop the flow of drugs into Canada through our land borders," Kimura said.
