A 32-year-old man from Chisholm Township is facing 15 charges following an Ontario Provincial Police investigation that began with a suspected impaired driving call in West Nipissing, ctvnews.ca reports.
OPP received information about a suspected impaired driver at approximately 10 p.m. on Sept. 24. Officers located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on Highway 17. The driver provided a breath sample for analysis by an approved screening device before fleeing the scene, driving in a dangerous manner while attempting to evade police.
As a result, the man was charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from a peace officer, and impaired driving.
Officers located the suspect on Oct. 8 during a traffic stop on Highway 539 in West Nipissing. At that time, he was arrested on an outstanding warrant and charged with three firearm-related offences, according to an OPP news release dated Oct. 21.
The following day, Oct. 9, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in Chisholm Township. Members of various OPP teams, including the canine unit, assisted with the search.
"During the search, officers located four firearms and ammunition," OPP said.
The discovery led to four additional counts each of unauthorized possession of a firearm, careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, and knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm.
The accused remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court in North Bay at a later date.
