Drugs, weapons seized at Collins Bay Institution — value near $180K

Contraband haul at Collins Bay Institution tops $179,000

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) has seized a significant cache of contraband from Collins Bay Institution, thewhig.com reports, following discoveries made between 8 and 11 May.

Inspectors recovered multiple packages containing tobacco, marijuana, crystal methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia and edged weapons. The combined estimated institutional value of the seized items reached approximately $179,765.

In a news release issued on Friday, CSC said it has since heightened security measures at its facilities. Ion scanners and detector dogs are now being deployed to search buildings, personal property, inmates and visitors.

A toll-free telephone tip line — 1-866-780-3784 — has also been established, allowing members of the public to pass on information about security-related activities at any federal institution.
