A 40-year-old dental practitioner in Ottawa stands accused of murdering his two young sons, torching his own clinic, and then ending his life inside his burning car on June 29.

The victims were aged 7 and 12. Their bodies were found inside the family residence in south Ottawa. Police believe the father attacked the children at home before moving on to his practice.

According to Ottawa Police, the man used Molotov cocktails to ignite his dental office. He then got into his vehicle and set himself on fire.

Court records show the dentist had previously sent threatening electronic messages to his former spouse and the children's mother. In a 2024 email, he allegedly wrote he would kill everyone around her and her new partner "in a very savage and barbaric way." Another message reportedly stated he would leave her alone but paralyzed in a wheelchair, unable to visit the graves of her loved ones.

The woman had gone to authorities with these threats. The man later represented himself in court, where he received a 12-month suspended sentence. The court denied prosecution requests for a treatment program or DNA sampling.

Ottawa Police have stated they will not release the children's identities, respecting the mother's wishes and protecting the family's privacy during what they described as an exceptionally difficult period.
