Stabbing and carjacking attempts in Brampton; woman charged with attempted murder in Mississauga

A knife-wielding man attempted to carjack four vehicles in Brampton Sunday night, stabbing one owner. In Mississauga, a 42-year-old woman faces attempted murder charges after a shelter stabbing.

Armed carjacking suspect at large in Brampton after Sunday night attacks

Peel Regional Police are searching for a male suspect who stabbed a man and attempted to carjack multiple vehicles in Brampton on Sunday evening, Toronto Sun Crime reports.

At approximately 10 p.m., near Clockwork Dr. and Creditview Rd., a knife-wielding man approached four separate vehicles in attempted carjackings. During one of those attempts, the suspect fought with the vehicle's owner — an adult male — who sustained a stab wound. Investigators described the injuries as non-life-threatening.

After the confrontation, the suspect attempted to carjack three additional vehicles in the area, all without success, before fleeing the scene on foot.

Police describe the suspect as a South Asian male, between 25 and 30 years old, with a slim build and a possible tattoo on his neck. At the time of the incidents, he was wearing a grey sweater, light-coloured pants, black Crocs, a blue and white Toronto Blue Jays baseball hat, and carrying a black messenger-style bag over his shoulder.

Peel Regional Police warn that the suspect should be considered armed and dangerous. Members of the public are urged not to approach him if spotted and to call 911 immediately. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 905-453-2121, ext. 3410.

Woman charged with attempted murder after shelter stabbing in Mississauga

In a separate incident the same evening, a 42-year-old woman has been charged with attempted murder following a stabbing outside a Mississauga shelter on Dundas St. E., around 5:30 p.m.

Officers responding to the scene initially arrested a man who had been involved in a fight with the victim — an adult male who sustained a serious stab wound to the neck and was transported to hospital in critical condition. As the investigation progressed, Peel Regional Police determined the man bore no responsibility for the stabbing and released him.

Investigators subsequently identified an adult female as the suspect, though she had already fled the area on foot before police arrived. Lorena Sanchez, of Mississauga, was arrested on Monday and formally charged with attempted murder.
