Surrey man escapes knife attack by clinging to moving Tesla in Redwood Park
A knife-wielding man attacked another at Redwood Park in South Surrey, chasing the victim until a bystander helped him escape in a reversing Tesla.

A bystander's quick reflexes helped a man escape a knife-wielding attacker at Redwood Park in South Surrey on Wednesday afternoon, according to Vancouver Sun Crime. The incident unfolded around 4:45 p.m. when the alleged assailant first attacked the victim, then rammed his Jeep into the man's Ford F-150 as he attempted to drive away.
The attacker climbed onto the truck and, once the victim fled on foot, gave chase with a knife in hand.
Robin Nuber, a photographer who had arrived at the park for a shoot, initially believed he was witnessing a road rage incident. When the danger became clear, he acted fast.
"Then someone yelled 'he's got a knife!' and the guy started chasing the other guy towards my car," Nuber wrote on Instagram. "The guy ran up yelling for help, so I unlocked the door and started backing up while he tried to get in, he couldn't get in in-time … and I ended up dragging him for like 100ft before he finally got inside."
The attacker eventually halted his pursuit, threw the knife into nearby woods and sat down to wait for police.
Nuber kept the victim inside the Tesla until officers arrived. He noted the man had a gouged eye, cuts and a bloody mouth. Nuber also reported seeing a police dog searching the surrounding woods for the discarded weapon.
Richard Mark James Evoy, 37, was taken into custody following the incident. He faces charges including assault, assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, criminal harassment and uttering threats. Evoy is scheduled to appear in Surrey provincial court on Thursday afternoon.
