According to Montreal police, the incident began around 11:35 a.m. local time. Among the deceased are one police officer and one civilian, while another officer was injured. The suspected shooter was also killed during the confrontation.

"We confirm with deep sorrow the death of one of our officers while performing his duty," the Montreal police stated in an official announcement.

The operation remained ongoing as authorities secured the area. Jewish community institutions were located near the scene, though no immediate information was released regarding the motives behind the attack.

The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (CIJA), a prominent Canadian Jewish organization, stated it was "closely monitoring the situation."
