Fatal single-vehicle crash follows police encounter north of Kingston
Ontario's police watchdog is investigating after a man and a woman were found dead inside a vehicle in South Frontenac, kingstonist.com reports.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said an Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer approached a male driver seated in a parked vehicle shortly after midnight on Monday, following reports of a suspicious car that was later confirmed to have been stolen.
The driver fled the scene and was involved in a single-vehicle collision a short time later on Bedford Road, north of Kingston, Ontario. Both the male driver and a female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene. Neither has yet been identified.
Bedford Road remained closed between Mason Lane and Lady Bush Lane through late Monday morning as the investigation continued, OPP confirmed. The force said it would not release further details about the crash and directed all inquiries to the SIU.
The SIU has assigned three investigators, two forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist to the case, the unit said in a news release.
