Ontario's police watchdog is investigating a fatal single-vehicle collision in South Frontenac following a pursuit involving the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), cbc.ca reports.

Shortly after midnight on Monday, an OPP officer approached a male driver sitting in a parked vehicle after receiving reports of a suspicious car, which was later confirmed to have been stolen. The man fled and shortly after was involved in a collision on Bedford Road north of Kingston, Ont.

Both the male driver and a female passenger were found dead at the scene. Neither has yet been identified.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has assigned three investigators, two forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist to the case. Bedford Road remained closed Monday morning between Mason Lane and Lady Bush Lane while the investigation was underway.

OPP said it would not comment further on the crash and directed all inquiries to the SIU.
