Google News IE — Crime (en) reports that the man suspected of opening fire at a rave in Aarau, Switzerland, acted entirely alone, cantonal police confirmed on Wednesday.
Michael Leupold, commander of the Aargau cantonal police, told a news conference there was no indication any other person had been involved in the early Sunday morning attack, which left a 22-year-old Italian woman dead and five others wounded.
"We therefore assume with a high degree of certainty that the shooting was the act of one individual," Leupold said.
The suspect, a 43-year-old Swiss man, surrendered to police in Delémont, in the northwestern canton of Jura, on Monday. He has remained silent since his arrest, according to prosecutors.
Leupold said the motive for the attack has not been established and that the suspect had no prior record with police. Aargau cantonal prosecutor Christoph Ruedi added that the man suffers from "psychological problems".
Authorities recovered two pistols and an AK-47 assault rifle from the suspect's car.
The attack has prompted widespread shock across Switzerland, where shootings involving multiple victims are uncommon despite relatively high levels of private gun ownership.
The organisers of the rave said they were "shocked and devastated" and pledged on their website to "do everything in our power to support the police in their work." They added: "A rave should always be a place of joy and love. Never a place where people are killed, injured or left in fear."
