Three arrested and seven raids in operation against interprovincial fraudsters
According to informedigital.com.ar, Entre Ríos Police dismantled a criminal organisation dedicated to fraud that had its operational centre in Islas del Ibicuy. The gang used the method known as "enganche" (hook) and had members in Misiones and Buenos Aires. The operation resulted in three arrests, seven raids and the seizure of numerous items as evidence.
The identified victims belong to the Islas del Ibicuy department and one of them resides in Chajarí, in the Federación department. The investigation was conducted by the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Division of Islas del Ibicuy and lasted more than a month, involving technical work and data cross-referencing in coordination with the Argentine Federal Police and Misiones Police.
The courts authorised simultaneous procedures in Buenos Aires City, Buenos Aires province and Misiones. In the Federal Capital, three raids were carried out with the participation of Federal Police, resulting in the arrest of two adult men. During these procedures, firearms, mobile telephones, documentation, cheques, stamps, Posnet-type payment devices, pen drives and credit cards were seized.
In Buenos Aires province, two additional raids resulted in the arrest of an adult woman identified as a participant in the alleged fraud. A mobile telephone and a portable netbook-type computer were seized from her and will be examined as part of the investigation.
In San Vicente, Misiones, two further raids were carried out. Two mobile phones, two number plates from a Volkswagen Amarok, documentation for two Volkswagen Amarok vehicles, documentation linked to a Peugeot 208 and an ignition key were seized there.
The three detainees and all seized items were placed at the disposal of the courts at the Islas del Ibicuy Departmental Police Headquarters. The investigation did not specify the total amounts defrauded nor the exact number of affected victims.
The case is being heard by the Guarantees and Transition Court No. 2 of Gualeguaychú, presided over by judge Natalia Lorena Céspedes, with the involvement of the Villa Paranacito Public Prosecutor's Office, headed by prosecutor Gastón Popelka.
