Fraudster gang dismantled in Entre Ríos: three arrested and seven premises searched

Three arrested following joint operation in Misiones, Buenos Aires and CABA

The Entre Ríos Police dismantled a gang of fraudsters operating from Misiones and Buenos Aires, according to a report by lagacetaonline.com.ar. The operation included seven raids in different jurisdictions and concluded with the arrest of three people and the seizure of numerous items linked to the criminal activities.

The organisation used a method known as "enganche" (enticement). Its main perpetrators were located in Misiones, whilst other members operated from Buenos Aires. Among the identified victims were residents of the Islas del Ibicuy department and a person from Chajarí, in the Federación department.

The investigation, which extended over more than a month, was led by the Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Division of Islas del Ibicuy, in coordination with the Argentine Federal Police and the Misiones Police.

In the capital, three raids were carried out, resulting in the arrest of two adult men. Officers seized firearms, mobile telephones, documentation, cheques, stamps, point-of-sale payment devices, USB drives and credit cards, all under analysis for possible links to the frauds.

In Buenos Aires province, two further raids resulted in the arrest of an adult woman, identified as part of the investigation. A mobile telephone and a laptop-type netbook computer were seized.

In Misiones, the operations were concentrated in the town of San Vicente, where two mobile telephones, vehicle registration plates, documentation related to Volkswagen Amarok trucks and an ignition key for one of those vehicles were seized.

The three detainees and the seized material were placed at the disposal of the Court of Guarantees and Transition No. 2 of Gualeguaychú, presided over by judge Natalia Lorena Céspedes, with the intervention of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Villa Paranacito headed by Gastón Popelka.
