'Loco Joe' detained in Misiones with false identity of murder victim
According to infobae.com, cooperation between Peruvian and Argentine authorities made it possible to capture Joe Luis Marín, alias 'Loco Joe', on 4 October in the city of Puerto Iguazú, province of Misiones. Marín was sought by Peruvian justice for aggravated homicide and had a Red Notice issued by Interpol.
Police forces located him in a border zone with Brazil through a coordinated operation. During the intervention, Marín allegedly attempted to conceal his identity by presenting an identity document (DNI) that did not belong to him.
Police verification established that the DNI used belonged to a person who died in Lima in November 2024, a victim of contract killing.
The authorities identify Marín as leader of the criminal organisation Los Chimbotanos, a group linked to crimes against transport workers and merchants in Peru.
In the same operation, Richard Salvador Casas Aguirre was also detained, who allegedly also used an identity not his own. Both were placed in the custody of Argentine authorities whilst the corresponding judicial proceedings continue.
