A 22-year-old Paraguayan citizen was detained preventively on Tuesday in the jurisdiction of Regional Unit XV, in El Alcázar, according to noticiasdelacalle.com.ar. The young man, identified as Aníbal Martínez L., had an outstanding arrest warrant and had been declared a fugitive in a case for aggravated theft being heard before the María Auxiliadora court in Paraguay.

The procedure began when police officers identified and detained the man in order to verify his criminal history and judicial status. The Misiones Police then carried out an exchange of information with the National Police of Paraguay to determine whether he had judicial requirements in that country.

The Itapúa Investigation Department confirmed that Martínez L. was indeed being sought by the Paraguayan courts and that he had been declared a fugitive in the aforementioned case.

Following notification of the detainee's judicial situation, the Misiones Police informed the Argentine judicial authorities and initiated the corresponding proceedings to advance with the extradition process to Paraguay.
