The man was involved in a criminal spree that began with the robbery of an 82-year-old woman and ended when police found him hiding inside a house in Rawson.
The events occurred on 16 September at approximately 11:23, at the intersection of 11 de Septiembre and Necochea. Sánchez Zarate was riding a blue motorcycle, wearing a helmet and dark visor, when he approached the victim and snatched a bag from her hands. Inside the bag were a mobile telephone and cash money.
The woman began shouting for help and tried to follow the motorcyclist. Officers from the 24th Police Station who were passing through the area noticed the situation and began pursuing the suspect.
The flight continued to Villa Congreso, where Sánchez Zarate abandoned the motorcycle on Urquiza Street and continued on foot. To evade the police, he climbed the external stairs of a property and moved across the roofs of another house. During the flight he left behind the helmet and the stolen bag, although the victim's belongings remained at the scene.
The suspect continued across the grounds of several properties until reaching a house located at Urquiza 1330 Oeste. According to the accusation, he entered the building without authorisation and attempted to hide in one of the rooms. Officers managed to locate him after obtaining permission from the residents to enter.
During the operation there was also damage to a police vehicle, a fact that was incorporated into the case as aggravated property damage.
The investigation was handled by prosecutor Francisco Micheltorena, under the Special Flagrant Crime System. The case was classified as robbery in cumulative sentences with two instances of breaking and entering and aggravated property damage.
Sánchez Zarate initially received a sentence of one year and nine months effective prison time for these acts. However, this sentence was consolidated with a previous conviction, resulting in a single sentence of 3 years and 3 months effective prison time. Additionally, his supervised release was revoked, preventive detention was ordered and he was declared a repeat offender.
