A joint operation by the Argentine Federal Police dismantled a fake extortion kidnapping in the city of Paraná, province of Entre Ríos, according to diarioelargentino.com. The investigation took shape following a report made to 911. A woman reported receiving messages via WhatsApp in which she was told that her partner was supposedly deprived of liberty and was being demanded to pay a substantial sum of money.
Based on that report, the Special Operations Investigation Unit Division Rosario and the Federal Operations Unit Division Paraná—both under the Superintendency of Federal Investigation Agencies—initiated intelligence activities, preventive patrols and surveillance of a vehicle identified in the vicinity of the ChangoMás supermarket.
Officers located the vehicle and detected a man who was attempting to leave the area in a rental vehicle. He was intercepted and arrested on the spot. Along with his arrest, the automobile, mobile telephone, cash and documentation considered relevant to the advancement of the judicial case were seized. The suspect was placed at the disposal of the competent court.
