Karen García's relatives categorically denied that justification. Although the fire did occur, the family described it as an accident: one of the couple's daughters had unintentionally started the fire with a lighter. The femicide perpetrator's account, they said, lacked any basis.
The family members also revealed that Karen had been seeking to separate from Carrizo, who had already displayed violent behaviour. They described him as "a jealous person" who regularly checked her phone. "He was jealous because of her TikTok videos," they told La Mañana Info.
Flight and confession at a relative's house
Minutes after the murder, Carrizo fled the scene. Karen's family became concerned when they received no response to their calls or messages, so they forcibly entered the residence. They found the woman unconscious in a room, with blood in her mouth. Initial forensic findings would suggest that the crime occurred several hours before discovery.
Carrizo, according to reports from TN, spent a long time wandering the area before taking refuge at his cousin's house in the La Católica neighbourhood. There he confessed to having killed his partner. The children were placed in the care of their maternal grandmother.
Investigation ongoing
The accused is being held at Police Station 3 in Villa del Carmen. The case is being handled by prosecutor Lucía González Farías. Investigators are working to reconstruct Carrizo's and the victim's final movements prior to the crime. The authorities have also requested that an autopsy be carried out to determine the precise cause of death.
