According to rosario.mitelefe.com, the lifeless body of Camila, a young woman from Rosario aged 26 who was undergoing recruitment to the National Gendarmerie, was discovered in the apartment she was renting in Barreal, a locality in San Juan province, located approximately 200 kilometres from the provincial capital.
Next to the body was her partner, a young man aged 25 from Tartagal, Salta, in a stuporous state after having ingested a large quantity of pills. On the table of the residence, police found a note of apologies written by the accused.
After being assessed by doctors from the force, it was determined that the suspect was in a condition to remain in custody. He was transferred to San Juan's Police Headquarters, where he remains detained at the disposal of justice.
From Rosario, the victim's brother, Hernán, explained that both had travelled together to join the force. The suspect was removed from the selection process due to poor performance, whilst Camila maintained high grades and was moreover progressing in her nursing studies. The family maintains that the attack occurred in a context of jealousy and manipulation.
The case was assigned to the CAVIG Special Investigation Unit in San Juan. The authorities indicated that, as it occurred in the private sphere of the residence, there are no direct witnesses to the incident, although security cameras on the property are being analysed. It was also confirmed that there were no previous complaints nor any restraining orders in force at the Calingasta department.
Justice is awaiting the results of the autopsy to officially determine the causes of death and the use of a bladed weapon. Once that stage is concluded, the body will be handed over to the family for transfer to Rosario. The hearing to formalise the case is scheduled within the legal timeframe of three days, and the judicial process will take place in San Juan province.
