Minutes before 21:00, police received a telephone call. The suspect himself alerted them to the presence of a dead man on the property and declared himself to be the author of the attack. Officers from the Rural Brigade travelled to the scene together with an ambulance and confirmed the reported situation.
According to the investigation, the altercation between the accused and the victim had begun around 19:00. The suspect admitted to having repeatedly struck the victim in the head. When the police arrived, he led them to a room where the smallholder's body lay, bearing an extremely serious injury to the skull.
After the death was confirmed, prosecutors Daniela Celoria and Nieves Papa Tello travelled to the establishment and coordinated the initial investigative measures. Also participating were the Operational Unit of the Public Ministry, the Forensic Investigation Body, Criminal Investigation, the Investigation Brigade, the Rural Brigade and officers from the localities of Bariloche and Pilcaniyeu.
During Monday, a second man was arrested and became linked to the case. The courts will have to determine what involvement he may have had in the incident. Both suspects were placed at the disposal of the judiciary and will be subjected to a hearing for the laying of charges, an instance in which the Prosecution intends to charge them under the provisional classification of simple homicide.
The charge may be modified as the results of the forensic examinations and the remaining evidence gathered in the file are incorporated.
