Captured during futsal tournament whilst being sought for homicide

According to argentina.gob.ar, the Argentine Federal Police (PFA) detained a 35-year-old man accused of having hired a hitman to murder his rival in the Villa Soldati Housing Complex, in Buenos Aires City.

The investigation, conducted by the Federal Investigation Department (DFI) of the PFA, determined that the accused had been maintaining a conflict with the victim for months. In that context, he would have organised the murder and hired a third party to carry it out.

In early March of this year, the attacker fired four times at the victim with a .380 calibre pistol. The victim was taken to Piñero Hospital, where he died days later from the wounds sustained.

As part of the investigation, the courts ordered the suspect's residence to be searched. During the procedure, officers seized the weapon allegedly used in the homicide, which according to the investigation had been stolen from a home in 2021. The accused was not found at the location and became a fugitive.

Officers from the Fugitive Search Division determined, through field work, that the wanted man was participating in a senior futsal tournament organised by an amateur league. The agents managed to establish when and on which pitch one of the matches would be played.

With that information, they mounted a surveillance operation at a sports facility in Avellaneda and entered the location undercover. There they identified the fugitive whilst he was playing the match and made his arrest.

During the procedure, a group of relatives and associates attempted to obstruct police action. The situation was controlled without any injuries being recorded.

The detainee, of Argentine nationality, was placed in custody at a PFA facility and put at the disposal of the courts.
