Arrest in Mercedes following vehicle damage and police resistance

A violent incident occurred this Thursday at the intersection of streets 47 and 26, in front of the Instituto Unzué in Mercedes, according to hoymercedes.com.ar. Two individuals caused a public disturbance that resulted in damage to a vehicle, a pursuit and the arrest of one of those involved.

The incident began with a 911 call alerting authorities to the presence of two men disrupting public order. According to initial police reports, both attempted to sell goods to the driver of a white Renault 12, a 37-year-old resident. When the latter refused to complete the transaction, one of the suspects reacted by striking the rear side window of the vehicle with a stick.

Upon noticing the arrival of police vehicles, the two attackers attempted to flee. One managed to escape, while the person who carried out the attack entered a property located on street 49 bis and 18 without authorisation. Inside the building he attempted to resist the uniformed officers, but was quickly subdued and arrested thanks to the intervention of the Municipal Police and the monitoring centre follow-up.

The case was classified as criminal damage, trespass and resisting authority. The Functional Investigation and Trial Unit (UFIJ) No. 5 of the Mercedes Judicial Department intervened, approved the proceedings and ordered the transfer of the accused to the judicial offices to provide a statement of charges.
