Uruguayan with three criminal records shot dead in Buenos Aires apartment
A 29-year-old Uruguayan man was murdered this morning inside an apartment in the Palermo neighbourhood of Buenos Aires. According to subrayado.com.uy, Argentine police sources are treating the incident as a drug-related settling of accounts.
The victim operated in drug sales in Villa Española, in Montevideo, associated with the family clan known as "Los Puglia", although with no family ties to that family. The Uruguayan Police had him registered despite him having no active warrant at the time of the crime.
The man had accumulated three criminal records from 2014, 2016 and 2017. In 2014 he was imprisoned for robbery, and during his detention he received two additional sentences for drug trafficking. Additionally, he had records from his minority and multiple investigations for theft, robbery, assault and homicide.
One kilometre from the crime scene, at the intersection of Avenidas Santa Fe and Bullrich, Argentine police detained two suspects. During the operation, a silenced firearm was seized that will be subject to ballistics testing to determine whether it was the murder weapon.
The "Los Puglia" clan has an recent history of violence. In July, a shooting attack in the Parque Rodó quarries left a 12-year-old child belonging to that family dead. On 31 August, the gang was again targeted by a shooting on Tomás Claramunt and Juan Vicente de Arco: a 19-year-old young man died and four people were injured, including a relative of the man now murdered in Argentina.
The Uruguayan Police forwarded the details of the deceased to the authorities of the neighbouring country, who are in charge of the homicide investigation.
