Young man arrested in Rawson after two knife robberies within five minutes
A 19-year-old attacked a woman and another young man with a butcher's knife in Rawson. He was arrested minutes later with one of the stolen mobile phones.

A 19-year-old identified as Martínez was arrested in Rawson on Tuesday night after carrying out two armed robberies in less than half an hour, according to sanjuan8.com. In both cases, he used a butcher's knife with a yellow handle to threaten his victims.
The first incident occurred around 20:50, when a 48-year-old woman got off a TNS line bus at the intersection of Conector Sur and República del Líbano. As she walked down Larrea Street talking on the telephone with her son, the suspect showed her the knife and demanded her belongings. During the struggle, the woman fell to the ground and received blows; the attacker reportedly attempted to stab her. The victim also suffered an asthma attack that made breathing difficult. The attacker fled down Güemes Street heading west, taking a waist bag with a jacket, two inhalers, medications, documents, the telephone and the bag.
Five minutes later, at 20:55, another young man who was walking along Las Heras Street with his cousin, past Maipú, was intercepted by the same suspect. His companion managed to escape, but the second victim received a kick, fell to the ground and was threatened while the attacker pressed his hands on his chest and demanded his belongings. The robber made off with a dark blue Samsung A54 5G.
Both incidents were captured by CISEM, which alerted police personnel carrying out preventative patrols in the area. The arrest was made around 21:18 on Zapiola Street, between Maipú and O'Higgins, when officers identified a young man whose characteristics matched the descriptions provided by the victims.
Upon noticing the police presence, the suspect threw the yellow-handled knife and attempted to resist. According to the police report, during the struggle he threw punches and kicks, and even kicked a police motorcycle, before finally being subdued. In a search, officers found the Samsung A54 5G among his belongings, which was recognised at the scene by the second victim as the telephone stolen minutes earlier.
Martínez, 19 years old, was placed at the disposal of the UFI Flagrancia. The case was classified as aggravated robbery through the use of a bladed weapon in two incidents, aggravated damage, resistance and assault on authority, all in concurrent proceedings.
