Teenager aged 16 detained over homicide of her boyfriend in Chimbas

A 16-year-old adolescent has been detained as the prime suspect in the homicide of her boyfriend, Gonzalo Martín Quinteros Olmos, 19, which occurred Monday night at a house in Villa 1° de Mayo, in Chimbas, San Juan. This was reported by tn.com.ar, which followed the direction the investigation took after initial autopsy results.

The victim was in his house with family members, friends and his girlfriend when he received a gunshot. In the initial hours, the central hypothesis suggested that three hooded men, between 19 and 20 years old, had entered the property and opened fire on Quinteros Olmos. This version gained weight because the young man had filed an extortion complaint that same morning and, according to the investigation, had received threats via Facebook.

However, preliminary autopsy results altered the course of the case. The examination determined that the projectile entered through the left maxilla and exited through the right side of the neck. Additionally, analysis of the distance from which the shot was apparently fired concluded that these findings did not match the account of an attack committed from outside the house.

Given this scenario, investigators re-interviewed the people present at the house at the time of the incident. Based on those statements, focus turned to Quinteros Olmos's girlfriend, who was inside the property when the gunshot occurred. The adolescent was placed at the disposal of the Juvenile Justice court, which assumed jurisdiction in the case given that the suspect is a minor.

One line of investigation is that the shot was accidental. Judicial sources cited by Tiempo de San Juan indicated that the shot "escaped from" the young woman. Nevertheless, investigators indicated that various further examinations must still be conducted to determine whether it actually occurred that way.

Investigators are also seeking to establish whether there was any prior conflict between the couple. Neighbours in the area mentioned during the initial hours that Quinteros Olmos and the adolescent may have had problems, although that information remains part of the active lines of investigation.

The Special Crimes UFI Brigade continues with measures aimed at reconstructing what happened inside the house, how the gunshot occurred and what the adolescent's involvement was in the young man's death.
