The investigation into the death of Gonzalo Martín Quinteros Olmos, a 19-year-old shot dead in his home in Villa 1° de Mayo, took a decisive turn with new evidence, according to tiempodesanjuan.com. These include the results of the autopsy, atomic absorption tests and a series of social media posts by the 16-year-old teenager who is currently the main suspect in the homicide.
One of the posts that caught investigators' attention dates from the Monday before the crime: the minor had shared the phrase "Whoever hides and lies always loses". The message became relevant in the context of the case after the investigation shifted towards her as a suspect.
From public grief to suspicion
On the morning of Tuesday 15 July, hours after the homicide, the teenager posted two stories with photographs alongside Quinteros Olmos in which she openly expressed her pain. "My love, my Gonzalito, crazy. Nooooo why you, my love", she wrote in one of them. In another she added: "Oh my love, how much this hurts me. Crazy, come, come back to me, please, my love, don't leave me alone".
Those posts raised questions following the subsequent change of direction in the investigation. Initially, the hypothesis pointed to three hooded men who had entered the home and attacked the young man. However, the autopsy results determined that the shot was fired at close range, which led investigators to review the initial account and to interview again those who were present in the home.
To this were added atomic absorption tests carried out to detect traces of gunpowder on the hands of those present. The combination of these elements led the investigation to focus on the teenager, who was inside the home at the time of the shot.
A relationship marked by ups and downs
In mid-August, the minor had posted an extensive message accompanied by photographs alongside Quinteros Olmos, in which she described a romantic relationship that, according to her own words, had gone through continuous arguments and reconciliations since 9 November 2024.
"And if perhaps we are not the perfect couple, perhaps we both made mistakes, we let go 1 2 3 and sometimes more, but here we are for one another just as we promised on 09~11~2024 to be together to be companions for life", she wrote at that time.
In the same post she recounted different aspects of their emotional life together. "Sometimes I think about how beautiful it is to be by your side, how nice it is to laugh at silly things, to fight and then make up, to hug each other tight when the world weighs on us", she expressed. She also made reference to a tattoo linked to the relationship and thanked the young man for accompanying her on her "odd days". The message closed with a declaration of affection: "You are the love of my life and I would not trade you for anything. I love you for ever and always".
Private profile and judicial caution
Another fact that emerged after the crime was the change in the teenager's social media settings. Her Facebook profile, which had remained public in the hours immediately following the homicide, is currently set to private mode.
The judicial authorities, however, are being cautious about the exact circumstances in which the shot was fired. A judicial source mentioned as a hypothesis that the gun "went off", so it still needs to be determined whether it was an intentional or accidental act.
The minor remains housed and in custody in a home run by the provincial state. The case fell under the remit of the Criminal Justice for Children and Adolescents, and judge Jorge Toro will have to establish what happened inside the home in Villa 1° de Mayo and what the teenager's involvement was in her boyfriend's death.
