Officials from the Federal Investigation Department (DFI) of Argentina's Federal Police dismantled an organisation dedicated to the sale of narcotics in Mendoza province, according to diariopanorama.com. The operation, driven by the National Security Ministry as part of the fight against drug trafficking, resulted in the arrest of five people and the seizure of drugs, money and items linked to drug retail activity.
The investigation began on 27 May of this year, when personnel from the Federal Operational Unit Division (DUOF) in Mendoza initiated field work aimed at identifying points of storage, processing and sale of drugs in the Cuyo region. The inquiries, supervised by the Mendoza Prosecutorial Unit—Investigation and Litigation of Simple Cases Area headed by Dr Patricia Santoni—made it possible to identify four properties with direct links to the gang.
Three of the properties were located in Luján de Cuyo department and one in Maipú. With the evidence gathered, the Federal Court of Guarantees in Mendoza, headed by Dr Marcelo Garnica, ordered the execution of the corresponding search warrants.
The procedures were carried out simultaneously. In that context, police officers entered the respective properties and arrested five people—three women and two men—all of Argentine nationality and adults, accused of selling illegal substances.
During the search warrants, the drug-detecting dog "Catalina" and her handler participated. The result of the operation included the seizure of more than 400 grammes of cocaine hydrochloride, several doses of marijuana, five mobile telephones, 495,500 pesos in cash, a precision scale, strips of nylon and documentation of judicial interest.
The detainees, along with the seized items, were placed at the disposal of the intervening magistrate for violation of the National Drug Law (23.737).
