A first sergeant of the Argentine Federal Police (PFA) shot and wounded a 17-year-old adolescent during a robbery attempt in Villa Tranquila, Avellaneda, according to infobae.com citing police sources.
The officer, belonging to the Strategic Custody Division, was off duty and making trips through the DiDi app on his private motorcycle when he received a request from a woman in Dock Sud. Upon arriving at the indicated location, a young man appeared who attempted to rob him.
Seconds later two other suspects appeared, who began to frisk the police officer to take his belongings. At that moment they noticed he was carrying a gun at his waist.
The three youths struggled with the officer and began hitting him. In the midst of the confrontation, the sergeant drew his regulation weapon and fired six shots. One of the suspects, aged 17, was wounded and fell onto the pavement; another of the youths attempted to drag him to move him away from the scene, but ultimately left him lying in the public road.
After the shots, several neighbours showed hostility towards the police officer, who took his motorcycle and left the scene. The officer was unharmed.
A call to 911 mobilised officers from Avellaneda's 1st Police Station to Villa Tranquila. Shortly afterwards, investigators were notified of a wounded youth's admission to Hospital Fiorito, where it was established that it was the adolescent shot during the robbery. The minor remains hospitalised with a guarded prognosis.
The case was assigned to prosecutor Natalia Milione, of the N°2 Prosecution Office of the Juvenile Criminal Responsibility Court. The incident was initially classified as attempted robbery and assault, and was later reclassified as aggravated robbery in a populated area and in a gang, with aggravation due to the use of a firearm.
According to police information, the ability to fire the weapon attributed to the suspects could not be verified. The wounded adolescent was charged and remains lodged in Hospital Fiorito, whilst the PFA officer was considered a victim in the case.
