Police officer detained after shooting pregnant colleague at Rivadavia police station

A gunshot inside the 34th Police Station in La Bebida, Rivadavia, left a six-months-pregnant officer seriously wounded and resulted in the preventive detention of her fellow officer. According to reports by canal13sanjuan.com, the arrested officer is Cristian Exequiel Albarracín, and the victim is agent Mariana Sol Jofré.
Jofré, who works as a clerk at the station, remains hospitalised in the Emergency Department of Guillermo Rawson Hospital with a reserved prognosis, though out of immediate danger.
What happened near 10 a.m.
The incident occurred around 10 a.m., minutes after Albarracín and Jofré returned to the station following an operation in the area. Three other officers were present in the main room of the station at the time of the shooting.
The preliminary official hypothesis indicates that Albarracín's service-issue pistol—a Bersa TPR-9—was discharged accidentally. The bullet struck Jofré in the lumbar region whilst she was seated at her workstation. She was transported urgently by an ambulance from the 107 service.
Investigation led by Special Crimes UFI
The case was placed under the responsibility of the Special Crimes UFI, headed by prosecutor Francisco Pizarro and assistant prosecutor Facundo Romero. Both requested a series of investigative measures from the Criminal Division.
During the scene inspection at the station, forensic experts seized the firearm and the mobile telephone of the person involved, and took samples using atomic absorption to determine criminal liability in the case.
