Judge of Guarantees Natalia Céspedes imposed 30 days of remand custody on Monday on a Uruguayan citizen intercepted on Saturday at the Brazo Largo Road Control Post on Route National 12, according to mercurionoticias.com.ar.

The operation was launched when police officers intercepted a private transport vehicle travelling from Buenos Aires towards Colón. The passenger attempted to flee and was apprehended by agents at the scene.

With judicial authorisation, investigators seized two firearms with obliterated serial numbers, 427.3 grams of a substance with preliminary positive result for cocaine, seven mobile telephones, 2,000 dollars, 82,000 Uruguayan pesos and 200,000 Argentine pesos.

The detainee was wanted by Uruguayan justice for his alleged involvement in the robbery of a branch of Banco República in Pando, which occurred on 24 August, and for a separate investigation linked to a homicide.

During Monday's hearing, the Public Prosecution Service requested 45 days of remand custody, but the judge set a period of 30 days. The accused was lodged at the Gualeguaychú Departmental Headquarters whilst the investigation continues.
