Joint operation captures fugitive for armed assault on delivery driver in Buenos Aires
A man from Tucumán wanted by the Buenos Aires courts was arrested on Wednesday at his home in the Juan Pablo I neighbourhood, according to losprimeros.tv. The arrest followed a joint operation by personnel from the Tucumán Police and the Buenos Aires City Police.
The procedure was carried out by officers from the Fourth Police Station and took place at a residence on Octaviano Vera Street, number 800. The suspect had been a fugitive in a case involving aggravated robbery with the use of a firearm and serious assault.
Chief Commissioner Guillermo Del Lugo, head of the Fourth Police Station, confirmed that the detainee was held at that facility and remains at the disposal of the Buenos Aires courts, pending his extradition.
The incident that sparked the case
The investigation began with an assault that occurred on 25 August in Buenos Aires. According to the case file, the now-detained man allegedly participated alongside an accomplice in a robbery of a Didi platform delivery driver, who was shot during the attack.
Police coordination and simulation for the capture
Sub-commissioner Alejandro Chávez Alvarado, deputy head of the Fourth Police Station, explained that on Monday a delegation from Division of Community Investigations No. 4 of the City Police arrived in Tucumán, bringing with them advances in the investigation.
With that information, Tucumán officers intensified surveillance until they determined the suspect's exact location. Investigators also observed that the man barely left his residence.
To overcome that difficulty, a simulation operation was launched: City Police officers posed as Argentine Post Office operators and managed to get the fugitive to come out to the pavement. It was then that the arrest was carried out, with the suspect offering no resistance.
The Fourth Police Station emphasised the coordination between both forces as key to locating the accused and executing the operation successfully in Tucumán territory.
