Uruguayan wanted for homicide and Banco República robbery captured in Entre Ríos

According to ahora.com.ar, police officers intercepted a private transport vehicle in the early hours of the morning at the Brazo Largo checkpoint in the province of Entre Ríos. The passenger, a 38-year-old Uruguayan citizen travelling from Buenos Aires to Colón, was not carrying documents and, when asked for an inspection, insulted the officers and attempted to flee before being restrained.

After being checked, the man admitted he was a fugitive from justice in Uruguay. The force confirmed that he had an arrest warrant for the robbery of Banco República de Uruguay and another case for homicide in that country, as well as an active blue alert from Interpol.

With the intervention of prosecutor Gastón Popelka and by order of guarantee judge Natalia Céspedes, the vehicle, baggage and the detainee himself were searched. Officers seized two firearms with suppressed serial numbers: a Bersa 9-millimetre calibre pistol with two magazines—one with 16 cartridges—and a Smith & Wesson .38 calibre revolver.

In the baggage they also found 427.3 grammes of a substance that personnel from the Dangerous Drugs unit submitted to field tests, with a positive result for cocaine hydrochloride. In addition, seven mobile phones, 2,000 US dollars, 82,000 Uruguayan pesos and 200,000 Argentine pesos were seized.

The detainee was placed in custody at the Islas del Ibicuy Departmental Headquarters, at the disposal of the court, whilst coordinations are made with the corresponding Uruguayan authorities.
