Venezuelan detained in Bolivia for 52 kilos of MDMA sent from Belgium to Argentina

A Venezuelan citizen with an international arrest warrant was detained in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, and handed over to the Argentine Federal Police (PFA) at the Salvador Mazza-Yacuiba border crossing, according to radio10mardelplata.com.ar. The man was accused of being part of an organisation dedicated to international drug trafficking that attempted to bring a shipment of MDMA from Belgium into Argentina.
The operation was conducted by the Federal Investigation Department (DFI) of the PFA, as part of a case being heard before the National Court in Economic Criminal Matters No. 2, presided over by judge Gustavo Meirovich, with the involvement of the Office of the Prosecutor for Narcocrimes (PROCUNAR).
The investigation began in March, based on information provided by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). As part of that investigation, officials from the PFA's Federal Operations Division succeeded in seizing 52 kilos of MDMA, one of the most significant seizures of that substance registered in the case.
To dismantle the organisation, investigators employed special techniques and an undercover agent. Through this mechanism, the delivery of a van and payment of advances related to the operation were coordinated. The procedure resulted in three arrests: a Mexican citizen, a Venezuelan and an Argentine.
According to the evidence gathered by the investigation, the Venezuelan now transferred to Argentina had allegedly attempted to access a workshop located at Iberá Street, number 5900, in Buenos Aires, where it was planned to disassemble the vehicle used to transport the drugs and extract the MDMA packages. Investigators had also reportedly located him in the area of the Zárate Port, where he had allegedly carried out monitoring tasks related to the delivery that was subsequently thwarted.
After the international arrest warrant was issued, Interpol notified Argentine authorities that the suspect had been arrested in Bolivia, a country he had entered illegally. A Bolivian police commission transferred him to the Salvador Mazza-Yacuiba border crossing, where he was handed over to officials from the Antidrug Division Nueva Orán, under the Superintendence of Investigations against Drug Trafficking, with the support of the Federal Operational Unit Division (DUOF) Salvador Mazza.
At the disposal of the court that ordered his arrest, the detainee was held in the Antidrug Division San Ramón de la Nueva Orán along with another defendant linked to the same case, pending the determination of his definitive transfer.
The investigation continues under the direction of Argentine justice, with international cooperation between police and judicial bodies from different countries.
