In Feldkirchen in Carinthia, a teenage driver triggered a police chase on Saturday, 12 July. Officers from a patrol unit initially noticed a car that turned into a street without signalling. When the police officers followed the vehicle, the driver suddenly accelerated and drove away at 65 km/h in a 30 km/h zone.
Ignoring the blue lights and siren, the driver disregarded the signals to stop. Due to the excessive speed, the vehicle eventually skidded and was brought to a halt by the officers.
Behind the wheel was a 16-year-old with Romanian citizenship from the Villach Land district. The teenager does not possess a valid driving licence. The registration plates on the vehicle are also suspected of being stolen. The suspect stated that he had acquired the vehicle from an acquaintance. He denied involvement in the alleged theft of the registration plates.
The police secured both the car and the registration plates. Further investigations into the origin of the vehicle are ongoing. After the investigations are completed, the 16-year-old will face charges.
