17-year-old without driving licence flees police at 150 km/h in Steyr

Unlicenced teenager speeds through residential area – passengers scream in fear
As fotokerschi.at reports, a dangerous pursuit took place in the early morning hours of 13 September 2026 in Steyr after a teenage driver ignored a police traffic stop.
At around 6 o'clock, a police patrol was conducting roadside checks on Aschacher Straße. A young driver ignored the signal to stop, accelerated and drove off. The patrol immediately gave chase.
The vehicle fled via the L1348 through the Saaß district in the municipality of Garsten and continued on to Aschach an der Steyr. Over a stretch of more than 300 metres in the Saaß residential area, a speed of 150 km/h was measured – the distance from the patrol car increased further. Shortly before Saaß, the car also collided with a deer.
Only after Aschach did the driver end the escape attempt. The check revealed that it was a 17-year-old Slovak national from the Steyr-Land district who does not possess a valid driving licence. The vehicle was provisionally seized on the spot.
The two 18-year-old passengers from Steyr stated during questioning that they had been in mortal fear during the drive and had screamed at the driver to stop.
