According to news.joyn.at, a 19-year-old Iraqi threatened a 26-year-old apartment resident in Vienna's Landstraße district with a meat cleaver on Sunday evening. The young man had previously been involved in a brawl with a group of unknown men and had sustained several scratches according to his own account.
Searching for someone named "Justin", he then knocked on the apartment door of the 26-year-old. The resident immediately noticed the cleaver in his visitor's jacket and attempted to close the door. The suspect resisted – ultimately without success.
Behind the closed door, the situation escalated further. The 19-year-old struck the door with the cleaver and inserted it through the letterbox. Only when the resident repeatedly insisted that no Justin lived at that address did the attacker desist. He claimed he had the wrong door and left. The apartment resident then called the police.
During an immediate search, the 19-year-old was apprehended shortly afterwards in a nearby park. He had previously thrown the meat cleaver into a meadow; a police dog located it. The man was arrested.
Witnesses to the preceding brawl refused to make any statement to police. According to police, whether "Justin" actually exists and what triggered the original fight remains unclear. Investigations are ongoing, and an interview with the suspect is still pending.
