Acquaintances of the woman became concerned in June when they were unable to reach her for days. They went to the flat and discovered her lifeless body. An emergency doctor could only confirm her death. According to investigators' assessment, the woman had been lying dead in the flat for several days. The murdered woman was a German activist for transgender rights.
The alleged perpetrator, who lived with the woman, quickly came into the sights of investigators from the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) and the Vienna State Criminal Police Office (LKA). Shortly after the crime, he left Austria heading for France. The Vienna Public Prosecutor's Office subsequently issued a European arrest warrant.
French authorities apprehended the fugitive in cooperation with the local manhunt unit. The Vienna State Criminal Police Office is continuing investigations into the matter and is working closely with the public prosecutor's office.
Vienna's deputy state police director Dieter Csefan emphasised that the swift success of the investigation was based on good cooperation. BKA chief Andreas Holzer also stressed the importance of international exchange within the European target manhunt network.
