A 26-year-old man from the Klagenfurt-Land district attempted to evade a police traffic stop on Monday afternoon. Officers had noticed the car driver around 17:15 in Bahnhofstrasse due to his conspicuous driving manner and wanted to stop him. However, the man ignored several stop signals and continued driving.
He subsequently accelerated his vehicle, turned into a side street and came to an abrupt halt there. He got out of the car and fled on foot. Only after repeated requests did the 26-year-old stop and return to the vehicle.
During the check, officers identified several violations. The man did not have a valid driving licence. Furthermore, the licence plates affixed to the vehicle had been misused. Additionally, the 26-year-old displayed clear signs of impairment by drugs according to police.
Police prohibited the man from continuing to drive and filed charges against him. The exact date of the incident was 6 July.
