A 74-year-old man from Spittal an der Drau was arrested during a traffic check after he allegedly sold drugs to his passenger shortly before. During searches, larger quantities of cocaine, methamphetamine and five-figure sums of cash were seized.

A 74-year-old man from the Spittal an der Drau district was arrested during a traffic check in Carinthia. The suspect is believed to have sold controlled substances to his 37-year-old passenger immediately before the check.
Police stopped the vehicle on the evening of 8 July this year. The driver showed signs of impairment from controlled substances. A voluntary saliva test came back positive. Due to suspected criminal activity under the Controlled Substances Act, officers searched the car and both occupants.
During the search, investigators seized a larger quantity of cocaine, a small quantity of methamphetamine and pre-packaged cocaine for sale. Both men were arrested provisionally and taken to Villach police detention centre.
During a subsequent house search at the residence of the 74-year-old, officers found cash in the five-figure euro range. They also seized further methamphetamine, small quantities of cannabis and cocaine, and packaging materials used for drug trafficking.
The 74-year-old confessed and stated that he had been selling controlled substances over an extended period. He was remanded to Klagenfurt prison. His 37-year-old companion is suspected of acquiring drugs from the older man shortly before the arrest. Investigations against him are ongoing whilst he remains at liberty.
