The Korneuburg state prosecutor has filed murder charges against a 47-year-old man. The man is accused of killing his 36-year-old live-in partner in early January in a village in the Weinviertel region in Mistelbach district.
According to statements by government spokesperson Gudrun Bischof, the suspect confessed to strangling the woman on 5 January after an argument. Investigators later discovered the body in an earthen cellar on the suspect's property. The victim was from Germany.
It was not until 13 January that an acquaintance of the man filed a complaint, after the suspect had told him about the act a few days earlier. Police had attended the shared address on earlier occasions.
The charges are not yet final. A trial date before the Korneuburg regional court has accordingly not yet been set.
