Prosecution appeals against acquittal of former Vice-Chancellor Strache

The Vienna State Prosecutor's office has filed an appeal against the acquittal of former FPÖ chairman and Vice-Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache. A spokesperson for the office announced this on Monday in response to an APA inquiry.

Strache was acquitted on Thursday by a judge in the so-called "life insurance" case. The prosecution's evidence did not prevail. The State Prosecutor's office now wants to secure a conviction at a higher instance.

The former prominent blue politician and another defendant were charged in connection with a life insurance policy. The prosecution initially provided no details about the reasons for the appeal that has now been filed.
