Axe Murder in Friesach: Investigation Closed – Perpetrator Died in Accident

Klagenfurt Public Prosecutor's Office Closes Case Following Fatal Attack in Friesach

The Klagenfurt public prosecutor's office has concluded its investigation into the axe murder in Friesach, according to Kleine Zeitung. The reason: the perpetrator is dead.

On the night of 1 July, a 27-year-old attacked the new boyfriend (29) of his former live-in partner in her flat with an axe and killed him. The woman (30) was seriously injured in the assault but managed to flee the flat to neighbours, who then alerted emergency services.

After the attack, the 27-year-old drove his ex-partner's car on the S37 in the direction of Klagenfurt. At the height of St. Michael am Zollfeld, he crashed – according to investigators' assessment, apparently intentionally – into an oncoming lorry. The man died at the scene of the accident. The lorry driver (45) suffered severe shock.

Since the course of events had by this point been fully clarified and the perpetrator himself had died, the investigation proceedings could now formally be concluded.
