Dating platform used as entry point to investment fraud: Villach man defrauded of tens of thousands of euros

According to Google News AT — Crime (de), a 30-year-old man from Villach was defrauded of several tens of thousands of euros through alleged share investments. Initial contact was made by a woman on a dating platform who recommended him to an alleged "stock analyst".

The Villach man subsequently got in touch with this person. The purported analyst instructed him to open an account on a trading platform and conduct a total of 19 transactions. When difficulties arose with the withdrawal, the man independently researched online and recognised the fraud scheme. The transactions in his supposedly held digital wallets were subsequently also flagged as potential fraud. Investigations are currently ongoing.

In a second case, a 46-year-old from Klagenfurt ordered pellets worth nearly 2,000 euros from a website and transferred the amount to a Lithuanian account. The goods were never delivered, and the website disappeared from the internet shortly afterwards. The man filed a report; the transferred money is likely lost.
